2017 Poggio Le Volpi Roma Rosso DOC
A blend of Montepulciano, Syrah and Cesanese grapes. Hand harvest, long fermentation of the grapes, soft pressing and maturation in barriques and tonneaux.
Deep bright ruby red. Intense nose with sensations of ripe red fruit, cherries in alcohol, red flowers, enclosed in a very pleasant balsamic note. Very smooth palate, pleasantly tannic, well balanced, and elegant and very long persistence.
Perfect with pasta with ragout, risotto with sausage, lamb and pork, prosciutto, medium aged cheeses, or with coda alla vaccinara.

- About The Producer
Poggio le Volpi was founded by Felice Mergé in 1996. The estate is located in an area between the edges of Monte Porzio Catone and the Roman countryside about 20 kilometres southeast of Rome, in the Alban Hills. Monte Porzio Catone is in an area formed by a small lateral cone of the Lazio volcano that has given rise to the surrounding region of the Castelli Romani. 100 hectares of land cover the surface of volcanic soil with an optimum natural microclimate, which is ideal for grape growing.
Traditional white grapes such as Malvasia di Candia, Malavasia del Lazio and Trebbiano together with red grapes such as Cesanese and Nero Buono are grown here. The main wine produced is “Frascati”, which has been DOCG for some years.
Their philosophy is the result of years of family experience in the viticulture world and it is based on a particularly attentive style of wines, on their typicality, respect for the territory, control of the winemaking process, always aiming for respect and exaltation of the richness of the territory.
