Piedmont

Piedmont is renowned for its outstanding cuisine, wine and food. The international “Slow Food” movement was created here in 1986.

The majority of the area’s winemaking takes place in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Alessandria but also near Novara and in the Canavese area just north of Turin.

Piedmont is home to the most prestigious wines - Barolo and Barbaresco, made from the Nebbiolo grape, respectively, the king and queen of reds, and are excellent for long term ageing. Lighter bodied Barbera, Dolcetto and Ruche' are other popular native red grapes.

Piedmont also has some superb white wines, namely Arneis, Gavi and Cortese.

You can also find delicious dessert wines such as semi-sparkling Moscato d'Asti and Brachetto.
